L’Association Foncière Agricole (AFA) Isola Village
Land of chestnuts
The Association foncière agricole du pays de la Châtaigneraie de la Tinée (AFA) was formed in 2004. Since then, a number of other enthusiasts from chestnut-growing communities throughout the valley have joined the association, giving concrete expression to one of the actions of the Tinée sustainable agriculture pilot site. In 2013, in partnership with the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan area, the association extended its activities to the Vésubie valley. It now covers 16 communes and has 136 members.
The AFA Châtaigneraie, based in the commune of Isola, aims to restore chestnut groves and preserve the tradition of chestnut growing. Thanks to a 56-hectare orchard that is maintained, developed and exploited, the association is able to create its own homemade chestnut cream.
With its own processing workshop and the collaboration of chefs such as Jean Montagard, the association offers chestnut-based recipes and makes its own chestnut cream.
